Milan has three airports, all marketed as "Milan". They are not interchangeable.
Linate (LIN) — 7 km from city centre Italy's most convenient business airport. Domestic and short-haul European flights only. 15 minutes by car to the Duomo, 20 minutes to the Quadrilatero. Single terminal, fast security. No long-haul flights. **Best if** you are flying within Europe and value the central location.
Malpensa (MXP) — 50 km from city centre The long-haul hub. All intercontinental flights operate here (Emirates, Singapore, ANA, Delta, AA). 50 minutes to city centre by car in light traffic, 75 minutes in rush hour. Two terminals, T1 for long-haul, T2 for low-cost. **Best if** you are flying intercontinental or low-cost from Europe.
Bergamo (BGY) — 50 km from city centre Ryanair and low-cost hub. 60 minutes by car to Milan, 90 minutes to Lake Como. **Best if** you are flying Ryanair and connecting to the lake more than to Milan itself.
Private aviation **Linate Prime** — Italy's most exclusive private terminal, parking for 100+ private jets, dedicated immigration. The first choice for [private jet arrivals to Milan](/atlas/private-jet-milan). **Malpensa General Aviation** — also handles private jets, more capacity, slightly less polished service.
Helicopter options Linate has a heliport (Bresso, 5 minutes from Linate Prime) for [helicopter onward to Lake Como](/atlas/helicopter-transfer-lake-como). Malpensa does not — helicopter transfers from Malpensa require a 15-minute road repositioning.
Our recommendation Flying intercontinental: Malpensa long-haul, then chauffeur or helicopter onward. Flying intra-Europe with luggage: Linate. Flying budget: Bergamo only if your destination is Lake Como or Garda.
