The drive from Milan to St. Moritz is one of the great European road trips — Lake Como, the Maloja Pass, three hours if nothing goes wrong. In February, when the Maloja is snowbound and the Como lakeside road is single file, "if nothing goes wrong" does a lot of work. The helicopter turns the same journey into 35 minutes and delivers you with the whole day intact.
The route Departure from the Milan area, north over Lake Como's Lecco branch, up the Valtellina and across into the Engadin. You cross the Swiss border in the air, which means customs is handled at the destination rather than in a queue at Chiavenna.
St. Moritz: from €4,200 per aircraft, VAT exempt as an international flight, plus Swiss customs and landing fees quantified at quotation. Bormio: from €4,200 per aircraft, VAT excluded — domestic, so no border formalities.
Both figures are for the whole aircraft and include the return leg on the same day, with the crew waiting for you.
Why Bormio is underrated Bormio has thermal baths carved into the rock at Bagni Vecchi, a serious ski area, and none of the St. Moritz price structure. As a helicopter day trip it is the same flight cost, entirely domestic, and far easier to arrange at short notice in high season. Lunch at altitude, an afternoon in the thermal terraces, home before dinner in Milan.
Border and paperwork for Switzerland Passports or ID cards for every passenger, given at booking. Customs clearance for a private flight into Samedan or an authorised site is arranged by the operator. If you are carrying goods bought in Italy and want the VAT export stamp, that is a different process and belongs on a road crossing — see the [Milan to Lugano](/atlas/milan-lugano-transfer) guide.
The weather question Alpine flying is more weather-sensitive than lake flying. A cloud base sitting on the Valtellina closes the route even when Milan is sunny. Practical approach: book the flight, keep a chauffeur on standby as the ground alternative, and decide the morning of. Our [St. Moritz road transfer](/atlas/st-moritz-transfer) guide covers that fallback in detail, and it remains genuinely beautiful.
Winter season notes Late December to early January and the White Turf weekends in February are the two peaks. Aircraft availability in those windows is measured in days, not hours — request early. Cortina works the same way; see the [Cortina transfer](/atlas/cortina-transfer) guide.
Tell the concierge below your date and passenger count and we will confirm the aircraft, the border handling and the fixed cost.
