The lake faces north-south, which means the western shore catches sunset on the mountains and the eastern shore catches it on the water. Both are worth a different evening.
Western shore (mountain sunset) 1. **Sundeck Bar, Villa d'Este, Cernobbio** — floating platform, lake at your feet, jacket recommended. 2. **T-Bar, Grand Hotel Tremezzo** — opens onto the floating pool, faces Bellagio across the water. 3. **Bar at Mandarin Oriental, Blevio** — quieter, more contemporary, no crowds.
Eastern shore (water sunset) 4. **Hotel du Lac, Bellagio** — small terrace just above the ferry quay, eastern light on the western mountains. 5. **La Punta, Bellagio** — at the literal tip of the peninsula, both sunsets visible.
Quieter alternatives 6. **Crotto del Misto, Lemna** — a 15-minute drive above Lezzeno, simple, locals only, sunset on the entire central lake basin. 7. **Vista Lago di Como, Varenna** — small wine bar above the village, on the eastern shore, view across to Cadenabbia.
Logistics Most western-shore terraces book out 2–3 weeks ahead in summer. Eastern shore is more spontaneous. Allow 20–30 minutes by [private boat](/atlas/private-boat-day-lake-como) between Bellagio and the western shore — much faster than the coastal road.
