Quadrilatero della Moda: the Milan luxury shopping streets, decoded

Montenapoleone, Spiga, Sant'Andrea, Borgospesso — what each street actually sells and how to be served properly.

6 min read

The Quadrilatero della Moda is the four streets bounded by Via Montenapoleone (heavyweight maisons), Via della Spiga (designer-driven), Via Sant'Andrea (smaller flagships) and Via Manzoni (department stores and watchmakers). Together, it is the densest luxury retail concentration in Europe by sales per square metre.

What lives where **Via Montenapoleone** — Cartier, Bulgari, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Loro Piana flagship, Brunello Cucinelli. The street to start at. **Via della Spiga** — Tod's, Bottega Veneta, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Sergio Rossi. More fashion-forward, narrower, more atmosphere. **Via Sant'Andrea** — Chanel, Fendi, Hermès home, Giorgio Armani. The quietest of the four. **Via Manzoni** — Armani Megastore, Vacheron Constantin, A. Lange & Söhne, Pomellato.

How to actually be served The big maisons keep VIP rooms for clients arriving by appointment. Walking in unannounced still works but you wait. Our concierge arranges in advance: a host, a private fitting room, a glass of champagne and the new collection brought to you. There is no charge — it is how the brands prefer to sell.

When to go Mornings (10:00–12:00) are the calmest. Saturday afternoons are crowded. The week between Christmas and Epiphany is high season for international shoppers; mid-September (Milan Fashion Week side weeks) is the most fashion-active.

Combine with Lunch at Cracco in the Galleria or Salumaio di Montenapoleone (street-level, in the courtyard). Aperitivo at the [Brera rooftop bars](/atlas/milano-rooftop-aperitivo) or, for the picture, on the [Galleria's seventh-floor terrace](/atlas/galleria-vittorio-emanuele-milan).

If your day combines shopping and lunch with a fitting at a private showroom, our Milan fashion & aperitivo day packages all of it with chauffeur and personal shopper.

Frequently asked

Are Quadrilatero prices cheaper than other European capitals?+
Generally yes for Italian brands (Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli, Bottega Veneta) — 10–15% below New York retail. For French maisons (Chanel, Hermès, Vuitton) prices are aligned with Paris.
Can non-EU residents claim VAT back in Milan?+
Yes, on purchases over €70 per receipt. The boutiques issue the tax-free form on the spot. Customs validation is at Linate, Malpensa or your departure airport.
Do I need an appointment to shop in the Quadrilatero?+
Not technically — but for a serious purchase (high jewellery, watches, made-to-measure), an appointment unlocks private fitting rooms, a host, refreshments, and the back-catalogue. Our concierge arranges it.
