Villa del Balbianello sits on a wooded promontory above Lenno, on the western shore of Lake Como. It was the country home of explorer Guido Monzino and has appeared in Casino Royale (2006) and Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002). Today it is owned and run by FAI, the Italian National Trust.
The two ways in By foot: a 1 km walk through woods from the village of Lenno, open only on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. By water: a private boat lands directly at the villa's stone pier, every day FAI is open. The boat option is the only sensible one — the wooded path is steep and the cypresses block the lake views the villa was built for.
Hours and tickets FAI opens the gardens mid-March to mid-November, 10:00–18:00, closed Mondays and Wednesdays. The interior (Monzino's expedition collection) requires a separate guided tour, in Italian or English, booked in advance. Skip-the-line is not sold publicly — our concierge arranges priority entry through partner channels.
What people get wrong The famous "Casino Royale terrace" with the loggia and the two stairways is the wedding pavilion. It can be reserved for private events; the villa is closed to other visitors on those days.
