Milan rooftop aperitivo: the eight terraces with the right view

Terrazza Aperol, Maio at La Rinascente, Radio Rooftop, Hotel Milano Scala — and the quiet ones with the Duomo all to themselves.

5 min read

Milan invented aperitivo and Milan invented the rooftop. The intersection is dense — there are forty-plus rooftop bars in the city centre, and only eight of them actually face the Duomo or the Alps clearly.

Duomo-facing terraces **Maio at La Rinascente** — closest to the Duomo's spires, free public access via department store elevators. **Terrazza Aperol** — directly on Piazza Duomo at street level on the corner, the cocktails are average but the location is the cocktail. **Highline Galleria Bar** — on the Galleria's own roof, between the dome and Piazza Scala. Booking required. **Terrazza Duomo 21** — Sky View by Eataly, casual, large.

Skyline (Porta Nuova) terraces **Radio Rooftop Bar, ME Milan** — Piazza della Repubblica, faces north toward Bosco Verticale and Unicredit Tower. **Ceresio 7** — Dean & Dan Caten's (Dsquared2) rooftop, two pools, the most photographed Milan rooftop, expensive cocktails, dress code. **Octavius Bar, Mandarin Oriental Milan** — quieter, hotel rooftop, mid-rise but elegantly framed.

The hidden one **Bulgari Hotel Garden** — not technically a rooftop but a courtyard garden behind the Botanical Garden. It is the city's quietest aperitivo, residents only feel, near zero tourists.

When to go Doors open 18:00, the light is best 19:30–20:30 in summer. Book Ceresio 7, Highline and Octavius 1–2 weeks ahead. Walk-ins work at Maio, Terrazza Aperol, Radio.
