Verona Arena opera nights: the transfer that gets you out afterwards

The Arena di Verona opera festival runs from mid-June to early September in a Roman amphitheatre that seats 13,000. Performances start at 21:00 (20:45 in late season) and finish between 23:30 and 00:45.

The 23:45 problem When 13,000 people leave Piazza Bra at the same time, taxis vanish, the ZTL barriers are active, and the last useful train to Milan has often gone. With a chauffeur, the car is positioned in a pre-agreed street outside the pedestrian ring — typically Via Pallone or Stradone Maffei — and you walk four minutes and leave. Everyone else is queuing.

Making it a day, not a dash Arrive at 17:00. Aperitivo in Piazza delle Erbe, dinner at 19:00 in the streets behind the Arena (book — every restaurant is full on performance nights), then the show. Bring a cushion if you have unnumbered stone steps (*gradinata*); the stone is 2,000 years old and unforgiving.

Garda alternative Many clients stay on Lake Garda rather than returning to Milan at 01:30 — Sirmione and Bardolino are 30 minutes from the Arena. The concierge can arrange the hotel and keep the same chauffeur for the return the next day.
